It's backed by sloping bluffs and cypress trees. You'll find lots of locals and tourists on the beach, some with their dogs, and it can get quite busy on summer weekends. Carmel Beach, an easy walk from downtown shops, has sparkling white sands and magnificent sunsets. Carmel Beach, California is located west of California's Coastal Highway, (HWY 1), at the end of Ocean Avenue in Monterrey County's town of Carmel. There is a beach parking lot although Scenic Rd provides additional street parking spaces. The beach is just a few blocks from the downtown Carmel area. Evening sunsets are a community event at Carmel Beach; join the locals and bring a picnic meal and a bottle of wine while you watch the greatest show in Nature's evening schedule. Once the sun sets, light a bonfire and make s'mores under the stars.
