The first recorded Fair in El Dorado County was held in 1859. Until 1939 the Fair was held at various locations in downtown Placerville, most commonly at the “Stockyards”.The first County Fair at the current site on Placerville Dr. (old Hwy 50) was held in 1939 conducted by the American Legion under a contract with El Dorado County. The American Legion conducted the County Fairs until 1952 when the current Fair Association was formed. World War II caused the Fair to become dormant from 1942 until 1947 when the American Legion reactivated the event.

Everyone who flies a kite will receive a souvenir Kite Day button. There will be other fun activities including a make your own kite table and free face painting, as well as pie eating contests, bubble gum blowing contests and a candy-drop kite. Plus, there will be interesting tables to check out, including nature tables and a sun and wind table, as well as crafts for the kids.

This all began ten years ago, with just a couple of dozen members, the Santa Cruz Woodies were a fledgling chapter of the National Woodie Club. But because of the natural tie-in to the local surfing community, the club member's cars drew a crowd anytime two or three of them got together.
